- One pound is EXACTLY 0.45359237 kilograms, fixed by the international yard and pound agreement of 1959. So 1 kg = 2.2046226218… lb. The pound is defined in terms of the kilogram, not the other way round.
- Is a kilogram a measure of mass or weight?
- Mass. Weight is a force and properly measured in newtons. Everyday use conflates them harmlessly on Earth, but the distinction is real: your mass is unchanged on the Moon while your weight is about one sixth.
